American English and Culture Program (AECP)
Welcomes you to Intensive English at
Arizona State University.

ESL at ASU

Established in 1974, the American English and Culture Program is located on the Tempe campus of Arizona State University, a "Research 1 Institution" serving over 64,000 students. Our program and the university are situated in the modern city of Tempe, which the New York Times has rated one of the top ten US college towns. AECP provides specially designed English language courses for non-native speakers of English. The program offers its students a wide range of services including:

Modern Curriculum

Course offerings are prepared to meet the language needs of highly motivated students. AECP offers six levels of instruction in reading/writing and listening/speaking as well as popular elective classes including TOEFL, Business English, American Pronunciation and Accent Reduction, Power Vocabulary, Grammar, Conversation, English through American Film and English through Music.

Cultural and Social Activities

A full range of program-sponsored trips and activities are provided to AECP students. Activities include field trips to scenic areas of Arizona such as the Grand Canyon and Sedona, picnics, language clubs, holiday events, university sporting, music and theater events, Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondback games, a Conversation Partners Program, health club membership, and many other on and off-campus activities.
The ASU campus has a professional auditorium which presents a full season of music and dance. It also has nine museums including the Nelson Fine Arts Gallery, and hosts a distinguished lecture series.

Computer and Language Lab

AECP maintains its own modern computer lab for the exclusive use of AECP students. All students receive e-mail addresses and internet instruction. Internet access is free and unlimited. There is also a free wireless (wi-fi) network and many computer labs across the university.

Certificates

The Certificate of Completion is awarded to those who have successfully completed their courses. In addition, AECP offers four special certificates to students who complete classes in particular areas: Business English Certificate, English Communication Certificate, American Culture Studies Certificate, Academic English Certificate.

Group Programs

AECP works with colleges, universities, companies, embassies, ministries of education, and international foundations and organizations to offer group programs, classes and seminars. Special programs designed to meet group needs and specific schedules can be arranged with the AECP assistant director of group programs.

Housing Options: Homestays, Dormitories, and Apartments

AECP students may apply for a dormitory room or an American family homestay. Many apartments are located near the university.
