Highlights
The American Language Institute at San Diego State University is one of the most internationally renowned university ESL Programs in the United States. The ALI's University Placement Services office assists students in evaluating, selecting, and applying to U.S. undergraduate and graduate degree programs.The American Language Institute includes two ongoing intensive programs:
- The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program prepares students who are planning to continue on to an American university with the English and academic skills necessary to be successful. Students may specialize in Pre-MBA Preparation. Pre-MBA students will have the benefit of expert GMAT and TOEFL preparation, as well as academic skills preparation for graduate business programs. Advanced ALI students applying to SDSU Graduate degree programs are eligible for a TOEFL waiver. Advanced students (550 TOEFL+) may enroll in the Semester at SDSU program and take up to 12 units of regular SDSU classes with American students for official SDSU credit and transcripts.
- The International English for Communications (IEC) program is designed for those students who do not desire to enter an American university but want to improve their language skills for personal and/or business use.
Advanced international students may participate in the following SDSU Certificate Programs (for academic credit):
- Business Certificate Programs
- Hospitality and Tourism Management Certificates
The ALI is centrally located on the beautiful San Diego State University campus. SDSU is recognized as the premier campus of the California State University system and is ranked among the top 6.7 percent of higher education institutions in the United States. SDSU's internationally recognized College of Business is home to the largest International Business undergraduate program in the U.S. As a part of SDSU, the American Language Institute offers its students many benefits, including access to SDSU facilities and opportunities to participate in American campus life.
Housing: The American Language Institute has its own housing office to help students find rooms in SDSU campus dormitories, apartments near campus, and homestays with American families. Airport pickup service is also available.
Activities: A number of regularly scheduled excursions are available to popular attractions such as SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo, and Hollywood, as well as local businesses and industries.
