The Glenholme School
An exceptional boarding school for students with special needs; The Glenholme School offers an individually prescribed learning environment with a steadfast academic curriculum. Using our effective individualized services, we apply a positive behavioral support model focused on development of social skills and lifelong strategies for success. The school’s milieu therapy addresses varying levels of academic, social and special needs development in students, both boys and girls, ages 10 -18 and postgraduates. We prepare graduates for continued education in traditional day schools, boarding schools, colleges and universities.
Milieu Therapy
Glenholme’s Milieu Therapy is present in every aspect of student life. This program utilizes positive behavioral supports, attends to motivational deficits, and fosters self-dependence. Emphasis is placed on engaging students in creative and preferred activities that employ their artistic, athletic, technological, and intellectual strengths and interests. These programs include equestrian, art, drama, dance, music, choral, sports, graphic design, TV broadcasting, programming, photography, robotics, and community service.
Education and Academics
Glenholme’s education program incorporates an individually prescribed learning environment with a steadfast academic curriculum. Using our effective individualized services, students are provided with hands-on experiences and continuous reinforcement of skills. The positive behavioral supports model motivates students to be enthusiastic about learning and the academic program challenges them strive for success. Glenholme offers students and families the essential educational resources to prepare for each student’s future with confidence.
The Arts
The arts is an integral part of the Glenholme program; linked to the Glenholme Motivational Management System, the arts instruction program is designed to impact positively on each individual in both artistic skills and social competencies that will assist them in mastering their treatment plan goals and lead them to a brighter future. The arts is an essential element for student development at Glenholme; as an activity-based program, it provides a diverse and creative means for promoting positive growth in social skills, making it a particularly effective tool for educating students with deficits in these areas. Success for life, especially for these students, starts with a healthy educational experience rich in creativity and involvement.
The Postgraduate Program
As part of Glenholme’s commitment to a complete education for young adults with special needs, the Glen Ridge program opened in 2006. Glen Ridge is a comprehensive living and learning program that allows for young adults, ages 17-21, to attend college in pursuit of higher education while residing in a supportive environment. This program incorporates educational supports for college life and academics, job coaching, a relationship building curriculum, and social development opportunities while fostering an independent lifestyle which leads to a successful career as part of life’s journey.

Clinical and Behavioral Services
Glenholme’s offerings are empirically-based clinical and behavioral services. The outcome studies conducted at the school over the past nine years demonstrate the positive impact of the program. The topics of these studies include the Milieu Therapy and Positive Programming, Intensive Behavior Supports, Individualized Therapy, Family Therapy, In-Home Consultations, Parents’ Participation in the Treatment Program, the Friday Seminar Series, the Effects of Engagement in Instructional Extracurricular Activities, and the Impact of Preferred Activities on Residential Programming.
Living at Glenholme
Glenholme’s campus allows students to enjoy the many aspects of life that apply to their education. Living in cottages, which afford living areas, kitchens and bedrooms; with 24-hour supervision and instruction provide students the opportunity to foster lasting friendships with a diverse group of peers and acquiring the interpersonal skills instrumental in becoming a well-rounded, self-reliant individual.
Parental Involvement
Glenholme emphasizes the necessity of parental involvement and the importance of consistency. The school’s community webpage expedites the daily on-campus happenings, student’s events, classroom activities, grades, and much more. Parent seminars and weekend retreats are designed educate parents on the behavioral techniques of the Glenholme program design. Our outcome studies confirm that the greater the degree of consistency between Glenholme’s treatment program and the student’s home, the higher the student’s rate of improvement.
Summer Program
The Glenholme Summer Program provides a rich menu of fun and engaging activities designed to strengthen social skills and boost academic proficiency. This program provides a cultural immersion through social events and activities, incorporates academics with camp activities, and utilizes the milieu therapy to provide a well-rounded learning experience. In 2010, the program runs from July 5 to August 20 with a minimum enrollment of three consecutive weeks.
