  Program Description

Founded in 1912, Montverde Academy is a college preparatory, coeducational independent school serving grades PK3 through 12. The boarding program serves boys and girls grades 7 through 12 and Post Graduate. Montverde Academy offers a challenging academic environment to students who have a strong desire to learn.

Montverde Academy graduates have been guided by three fundamental principles: Knowledge, Character and Community. “Our mission is to increase student knowledge, develop cognitive skills and build character in a nurturing, disciplined and diverse community.” These principles remain just as strong today as they were nearly 100 years ago. Statistics alone speak to the Academy’s success at instilling the principles of Knowledge, Character and Community in its students. Programs including Advanced Placement courses, Honors courses, the Advanced Placement International Diploma, the Study Area Concentration Diploma, and offerings in fine arts, clubs and organizations allow students to become positive contributors to the Academy and community.

Montverde Academy graduates have a 100 percent college acceptance rate. The full time college guidance department guides students with the college search and application process. Opportunities for students to meet with college representatives both on the Academy campus and at College Fairs are facilitated throughout the school year.

Montverde Academy

As many as 43 countries have been represented at one time within the student body of Montverde Academy. International students are offered three levels of English as a Second Language (ESL) in the Progressive English Program. This program is designed to prepare students to be competent in their oral and written English skills. Students are assigned to the appropriate level after placement assessment. Montverde Academy Summer Language Institute (MASLI) offers the unique opportunity for intensive study of the English language during the summer term. The Chen Family Language Laboratory and a dedicated Progressive English staff support the program.

At Montverde Academy students of all levels can discover their talents and pursue their creative passions through theatre, music, dance, visual arts and other activities. We offer formal academic courses in drama and music along with extracurricular activities ranging from theater production, choir, 3D art to photography. Most of these activities take place in our Fine Arts Center, featuring a 450 seat professional style theater that includes music classrooms in addition to an art, ceramics and photography studio.

In addition to developing students academically, Montverde Academy also places an emphasis on developing students physically through positive interscholastic competition. Much time is spent developing the individual student from a physical perspective. Montverde Academy’s first-class facilities which feature an Equestrian Center that specializes in Walking Horse/Hunter Jumper training, will now include a new state of the art, multi-million dollar, multi-sport athletic complex. The complex scheduled to open in the fall of 2010, includes a Softball Field, Baseball Diamond, Multi Purpose Field for Lacrosse and Soccer, Tennis Courts and permanent concession stand. These facilities serve to enhance and compliment the athletic offerings. The Academy’s highly competitive athletic programs showcase students’ athletic abilities and character.

At Montverde Academy, we believe outstanding character is essential to a well educated, well rounded person. We strive to instill strong moral and ethical character in each of our students, beginning with our Honor Code, a simple pledge of behavior every student is expected to abide. Students receive further moral and ethical instruction through our Character Community Connection programs, and many students participate in enriching community service activities. As educators, it is our responsibility to teach students about the world and their responsibility for enhancing the lives of those around them.

Accentuating the foundation of Montverde Academy’s community is its exemplary administrators and educators who are dedicated to academic excellence, many of which hold advanced degrees. The Academy also maintains several prestigious accreditations, including the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (since 1927), the Florida Council of Independent Schools, the Southern Association of Independent Schools, and the Florida Kindergarten Council.

In essence, from its modest beginnings in 1912 to present day, Montverde Academy is the same nurturing environment where Knowledge, Character and Community continue to guide the educational experience for lifelong learning and global leadership.
