About SUNY College at Oneonta

Founded in 1889 in "honor and good faith," the College is located in beautiful upstate New York. The College has 5,900 undergraduate students, 200 master's students, and 100 international students representing 15 countries. Located in a semi-rural area with spectacular views of the Catskill Mountains and fresh air, the campus and community are safe, friendly, and culturally diverse, offering year round activities and events.

The College emphasizes career development and building personal integrity through community involvement. Its facilities include a Language Lab, comprehensive Library, Writing Center, Art Gallery & Theatre, Fitness Centers with indoor pools, Counseling, Health & Wellness Center, Center for Social Responsibility and Community, and 70 clubs and organizations. The College has Division III athletics, for which international students may apply.

SUNY College at Oneonta and city attracts international performers who add to the city's charm. The College prides itself on its elite classroom technology, prestigious faculty, campus cleanliness, 15 residence halls, and comprehensive dining facilities.

Degree Programs

SUNY College at Oneonta is widely known for its Music and Music Industry programs (with 300 internships and study abroad option in Sweden) and Fashion Design and Merchandising, (with a strong relationship with FIT, NYC), Restaurant Management and Professional Accounting degree with the highest CPA exam passing rate in New York. The College is highly respected for its Business Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Nutrition & Dietetics, English, Education, Psychology, Sociology, Art, and Theatre degrees, among its 69 bachelor degrees. Its Computer Science and Mass Communication programs offer a variety of concentrations to meet the challenging work environment.

Oneonta

Oneonta has a progressive local and interstate bus system, 7 days per week with routine stops on campus. The campus is 4.5 hours to New York City by bus and just 1 hour to Albany, a major metro shopping area. Downtown Oneonta is walking distance from SUNY and has unique gift shops, restaurants, farmer's markets, and entertainment in this historic city. A nearby shopping mall is a short distance from the campus by bus.

The Albany International Airport is just 1 hour 15 minutes-The OIE office provides free airport pickup for new student arrivals. JFK International Airport is also within reach and has an Airtrack/railway/bus system direct to the Oneonta campus.

The city is home to the National Soccer Hall of Fame, the Foothills Performing Arts Center, and close to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, a major tourist area. Upstate New York is a four-season state. Summer is mildly warm with cool nights, spring is beautiful, fall is colorful, and winters offer plenty of snow, ideal for sports and recreation.

International Student Admissions

The State University of New York (SUNY) College at Oneonta seeks qualified applicants from around the world. The College respects the intellectual and cultural contributions that international students bring to the campus.

A minimum iBT/PBT TOEFL score of 61/500 is required for undergraduate admission. An iBT/PBT score of 79/550 is recommended. Students with TOEFL scores below 61/500 may apply to the College and take supplemental English as a Second Language (ESL) coursework. The College also accepts comparable IELTS and ELS Language Center scores.

The Office of International Education (OIE)

The Office of International Education (OIE) functions as a center for recruitment and retention of international students. It is committed to providing service excellence and advice on immigration, campus life, professional and personal goals, academic development, and community involvement. OIE provides many special events and field trips year-round by its knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Costs

SUNY College at Oneonta's tuition is affordable and value-added. International students pay modest out-of-state tuition, dormitory, and fees. Overall, the annual cost of a top quality education is just over $25,000 USD for tuition, fees, and room and board combined. On-campus employment is available as well as academic and financial need-based international scholarships for eligible students.
