Program Description

The Storm King School inspires students toward academic strength and confidence with a caring faculty in a community that embraces character, wellness, and trust. Storm King is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for grades 8-12. A traditional curriculum, enhanced by co-curricular programs and a strong emphasis on character development, prepares students for university and life.

Established as the Cornwall Heights School in 1867 by Reverend Louis P. Ledoux, an Amherst College graduate, the School later was known as the Stone School when Dr. Carlos H. Stone directed it. The present name, The Storm King School, dates from 1923, when Alvan Duerr was headmaster, and is taken from the mountain where the school is located.

There are approximately 140 students currently enrolled at Storm King, 75% boarding and 25% day students. The School enrolls students from 10 states and 12 countries. The Storm King School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and is a member of the New York State Association of Independent Schools, the National Association of Independent Schools, and the College Board, among other professional organizations.

The school is governed by an 18-member Board of Trustees, of which half are alumni.
