Program Description
A university preparatory, day (grades PK-12) and boarding (grades 7-12) school grades, Andrews Osborne Academy (AOA) offers a wide variety of academic, social, and athletic opportunities. The beautiful 300 acre campus located in Willoughby, Ohio is just twenty miles east of Cleveland and forty minutes from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. That places us just forty minutes from anywhere in the world!
The AOA curriculum is geared for all student levels and includes honors, Advanced Placement and Independent Study courses. All seniors are involved in the Senior Project Program which exposes the students to a variety of career and community experiences during the last few weeks of their senior year. The English as a Second Language program serves our international students with offered classes in both the secondary and advanced levels of ESL.
The faculty members at Andrews, 65% of who hold advanced degrees, understand how students learn and achieve, and how important it is to design an environment not merely incorporating but actually constructed around distinct learning styles. Unique class offerings include Geometry and Art, Biodiesel, and Entrepreneurship. AOA students also have access to day or evening art classes, music lessons, and theater productions at the Willoughby Fine Arts Association, located right on the AOA campus. Students are able to easily enhance their personal or professional portfolio with the very best instruction.
Over the weekend, students at AOA might take in a movie, shop at a local mall, attend a concert, or just spend time with their friends in the dorm. There are seven dormitories, each with a living room and cozy kitchen. Often the refrigerator is stocked by the students with their own selection of "comfort food".
Boarding students at AOA enjoy time with their friends and have easy access to after school athletic events and club activities. Students also have plenty of time for studying and attend a mandatory study session each evening. Each dormitory also has a computer, in-room internet access, a television set, and laundry facilities. Students may bring their own cell phones and computers. Students from distant states or countries can be assigned host families in the area with whom they can reside during open weekends or school vacations.
Academics
With a total school enrollment of 350, the average class size at AOA is just ten students who enjoy a student-teacher ratio of 5 to 1. Not surprisingly, 100% of AOA graduates attend excellent colleges and universities each year. Some choose to remain in Ohio, while others move on to storied institutions such as Purdue, Cornell, Georgetown, and Vassar. The AOA curriculum is geared for all student levels and includes honors, Advanced Placement and Independent Study courses. Boarding Life
Students attend AOA from countries as far away as Korea, Germany, Rwanda, Spain, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, China and Taiwan.
