Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) is an accredited, public college in Rock Springs, Wyoming, the least populated (but ninth largest in size) state in the U.S. Located in the Rocky Mountains on a high desert plateau overlooking southwestern Wyoming, the campus is in a safe, friendly town of 23,000 residents. The closest cities are Salt Lake City, Utah and Denver, Colorado. The campus enjoys golden autumns, crisp winters with snow, and very pleasant spring and summer weather.

Many of the 3500 students at WWCC are from small towns in Wyoming. The college has 1242 full-time students including more than 55 international students from 25 countries. Experienced, fully qualified instructors teach classes at WWCC. This allows for extensive interaction in the classroom and outside of class hours. International students enjoy small classes and personal attention from faculty and staff.

Student Life

On-campus housing includes apartments and residence hall rooms, and 540 students live on campus. Students participate in competitive varsity sports (men’s and women’s basketball; men’s and women's soccer and wrestling; and women’s volleyball), a cheerleading squad, women’s dance team, student government, intramurals, radio station, and 15 campus clubs.

The international student club “Students Without Borders” is popular with international and U.S. students. Many free services are available including academic advising, peer tutoring, career and personal counseling, disability support services, a host family program, computer labs with Internet and email access, and recreational facilities.

Campus Facilities

WWCC’s facility is spectacular—a unique, award-winning design. The modern, all-enclosed campus includes well-equipped classrooms and laboratories, library, 2 gymnasiums, weight room, wellness center, aquatic center, soccer and softball fields, walking track, tennis and basketball courts. The campus offers a performing arts facility, on-campus housing, cafeteria, and snack bar. More than 350 computers are available for student use in 5 computer labs, and wireless Internet access is available across campus.

Scholarships for International Students

International students may be eligible for scholarships at WWCC. Academic scholarships may be awarded based on official SAT score reports. These scholarships can provide $1600 to $6000 towards the $13,000 annual cost of attendance. Other grants may be awarded based on grades earned at WWCC, and international students may receive department, special ability, and athletic stipends.

Beyond WWCC

Many international students attend regional universities after completing their studies at WWCC. Other students transfer without difficulty to universities across the U.S. Some students stay in the U.S. for one year of Optional Practical Training (OPT) or return home to benefit from their improved English skills and study-abroad experience.

WWCC Admissions Requirements

As an open-admission community college, all international students who complete the application process are accepted for admission. The admissions deadline for Fall 2010 semester (August) is June 15, 2010. The admissions deadline for Spring 2011 semester (January) is November 1, 2010.

WWCC requires documentation of English ability:

1. Official SAT score report or TOEFL score of 500 regular / 173 computer / 61 iBT or STEP Eiken Grade 2A or Cambridge ESOL exam or IELTS 5 for regular course enrollment.
2. Official TOEFL score of 400 regular / 97 computer / 32 iBT or STEP Eiken Grade Pre-2 or Cambridge ESOL exam or IELTS 4 for ESL course enrollment.

Documentation of English ability is required for all non-U.S. citizens except native English speakers from the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, or non-French speaking Canada. Waivers may be granted for (1) transfer students with demonstrated success in college level English courses or (2) students whose secondary education was taught in English. When all documents are received by WWCC, an acceptance letter and Form I-20 will be issued for the student visa application.
